Deluxe Town Diner Pic
Here's a nice picture (by Flickr user
KarenMarleneLarsen) of toast and home fries at the Deluxe Town Diner in Watertown. They have really great bread there, from
Nashoba Brook Bakery. The white toast is sourdough by default, which is a rarity in New England!
I also just discovered that
Blue Man Group recorded a music video at the Deluxe. Awesome.
Yankee Diner: Closed!! (Or Maybe Not)
(12/1/2009: looks like it's back open! See comments below. I have no idea if Deb is still working there, but I'm glad the Yankee is back in business.)
Sadly, the Yankee Diner on Rt. 20 in Charlton, MA has closed down. We
really liked this diner. Anybody have any idea why it closed?
Deb is a fantastic personality, and the one time we did eat there she made us feel right at home. As you can see, this made Dharia sad:
I also disapprove:

Bacon!
While not strictly a diner post, I would like to write about bacon. I'm sure most people would agree that bacon is an integral part of the diner experience, so I don't feel bad writing about it here.
My birthday was about a week ago, and in honor of the event, Dharia ordered a four-pack of artisanal bacon from the
Grateful Palate! I ended up receiving
- Brown sugar cured Virginia bacon
- Burgers' Smokehouse peppered country bacon
- Nodine's Smokehouse double smoked bacon
- Petit Jean's Ozark hickory smoked bacon
I'm trying the bacons one by one. So far I've only had the Virginia bacon, and I have to say it's one of the best bacons I've ever had. We made BLTs with that bacon. Here's a picture of the ridiculously tasty result (including some nice farmstand heirloom tomatoes):
And because they're nice looking, here's a closeup of the tomatoes we used:
